Haunt Sweet Haunt

Crafting Spooky Halloween Decor
(Without Summoning Actual Ghosts)

Get ready to summon your creativity.

If you’ve ever wanted to transform your house into a Pinterest-worthy haunted mansion without the mess of carving 87 pumpkins, let me introduce you to your new best friend: the Cricut cutting machine. This magical gadget cuts paper, vinyl, cardstock, and more—basically everything but your candy stash (which you’ll need for “creative fuel”). I have the Cricut Explore 3, which you can buy here.  (____)

Step One: Pick Your Victims (ahem, Materials)

For Halloween, think black cardstock bats, orange vinyl pumpkins, or even glittery iron-on decals for those last-minute spooky T-shirts. The Cricut doesn’t judge your choices—it just cuts them with surgical precision while you cackle like an evil genius. Here are some of my favorite blanks to use (_____)

Step Two: Gather Your Tools of the Trade

You’ll want:

  • A Cricut machine (Maker, Explore, or Joy—

  • depending on how haunted your crafting space is).

  • Cutting mats (green StandardGrip usually does the trick).

  • Weeding tools (tiny hooks that make you feel like a very precise pirate).

  • Transfer tape (so your vinyl doesn’t end up on the cat).

Step Three: Let the Spooky Begin

Cut out vinyl decals to slap on windows, spooky banner letters to hang across the mantel, or paper bats that look like they’re swarming your walls. Bonus points if you layer in glow-in-the-dark vinyl—because nothing says “Halloween chic” like a ghostly decal jumping out at your houseguests in the dark.
